Murdoc Loch has a secret spice that lies within in his unrelentlessly focused nurturing of failure. It would seem that pain for Murdoc is merely a fuel, one that has throttled his insatiable need to grow. It has allowed him to overcome the obstacles that would propel him to the tops of global leaderboards on some of the toughest games to date.
Trials HD’s most difficult tasks were among Murdoc Loch’s primary objectives. Constantly pushing the boundaries and limits as to what could be done in the editor and with the bike, he achieved the #1 global leaderboard position for several years as well as many world records, including his famous Inferno II run.
Murdoc Loch has left his mark on many of the toughest puzzles and saw sanctuaries in Super Meat Boy’s X360 and Nintendo Switch speedrunning leaderboards. Although his 7-year-old son Tetris has surpassed a great deal of those world records to date, he has still made an impact in the community.
Thomas Was Alone also captured the heart of Murdoc’s puzzle solving passions. Within Mike Bithell’s magical narrative of the nuanced intricacies inherently prescribed to relative quadrilaterals, Loch found a deep & sincere resonance.
When Trials Evolution first hit the Xbox Live Marketplace, Murdoc Loch staked his claim at the number one spot by being the first to complete 100% of the game’s achievements, securing his name at the top of the True Achievements website. This feat required finding all of the hidden squirrel locations before the rest of the entire community.
During his squirrel quest Murdoc, found a fair few of the encrypted signs ANBA (aka Antti Ilvessuo: a Redlynx founder & creative director) had hidden away. While sniffing for the clues Ilvessuo left, Loch was left spiraling down the relative path of least resistance. In a moment of brute force logic, a crack in the code was assumed as Murdoc broke through the creative director’s schemes to unlock the hidden song that would end up going viral on Murdoc’s YouTube channel as well as being featured in a few Kotaku articles. One of the ways Trials Evo set itself above its predecessors was with its inclusion of Track Central. Murdoc Loch’s Trials HD tracks were so popular & left such an impact in the community that numerous rebuilds of Murdoc’s designs began showing up on Track Central. A few of these found their way into the highest rated tracks of all time feed. Murdoc was able to create a pair of new lines that would make an appearance on the highest rated feed as well, including the huge hit Cough & Cringe; Obsolescent would go on to be featured in an episode of TETS (after Murdoc’s skills were publicly shamed in a previous one) where YouTube host akamikeb coined/popularized the trials term fap/fapping: an eloquent way to describe a disgusting technique that Murdoc was monstrumental in developing, though back in Trials HD it was simply referred to as a ‘Dexter X Press’.
Murdoc Loch was brought to Finland and allowed to playtest Trials Evolution: Gold Edition, during the cold winter of 2013 & found his way into the games’ credits. While in Helsinki, Murdoc was awarded with a wrench that accompanies his name on the Xbox 360 leaderboards in Trials Evolution. An honor, by which Redlynx acknowledged Murdoc Loch as one of the communities top builders.
